The hardest languages to learn in the world

The Hardest languages to learn in the world:

Learning a second language is challenging even though you opt for a simple language. However, if you wish to make the challenge of language learning tougher, we have the list of the six hardest languages to learn for English speakers.

What makes a language tough?

Before we move forward and uncover the list of most challenging languages, you need to know a few terms that make a language so tough to learn.

A tonal language uses distinct pitches to create a different meaning of a dialect. For instance, the meaning of a 'car' will remain the same in English even if we speak it using a higher pitch. Moreover, agglutinations mean that a sentence can be spoken using a single long verb using prefixes and suffixes. This means that the importance of the proposition has become negligible.

Six hardest languages to learn in the world

  1. Mandarin Chinese

Mandarin is undisputedly ranked as the world's most complicated language to learn. The fact that it has four distinct tones with the addition of one neutral tone and a heap of different characters and idioms makes it the hardest to comprehend, understand and speak altogether.

  1. Japanese

The language of Japan and Palau, written in Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji script, is also a complicated language to learn. The numerous individual symbols and borrowed words of old Chinese can give you a real hard time learning it. However, once you master the Hiragana and katakana alphabets, it will be easier for you to gain proficiency.

  1. Arabic:

Arabic has a unique script. The right-to-left writing style, 28 letters, a massive heap of synonymous words, and a variety of dialects rank it among the most complex languages to learn.

  1. Hungarian:

The agglutinative language of Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Ukraine, with 26 cases, is a tough language to crack a code and learn. For ex, adding a vowel to correct the meaning of a word (vowel harmony) and additional accents in the latent scripts can cause trouble if you attempt to learn it.

  1. Vietnamese:

The list of the hardest languages to learn in the world is incomplete without Vietnamese. It is a tonal language with six distinct tones with 100 million speakers. In addition, the variety of consonants, dialects, numerous vowels, and complex syllables makes it hard to decipher, understand and speak.

  1. Turkish

Turkish is another agglutinative and vowel harmony language. This language of 70 million speakers has difficult dialects and rich Arabic vocabulary that can be challenging for an English speaker to learn. Moreover, you may face difficulty learning challenging grammatical aspects and problematic pronunciation. So it's a tad of a challenge for you to learn Turkish.
